General Information

Letters of Invitation

If participants require a letter of invitation (e.g., to obtain visa or to satisfy their institution’s requirements), the ORCA Board will provide one on request. Please contact the Secretary-General, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Monique van der Veen (E-mail: secretary@orca-caries-research.org) in good time. Travel to Cagliari

Cagliari can be reached directly from many European countries. For anyone outside Europe, Rome (airport code FCO) is the easiest choice as there are several flights a day.

For a map with all current direct flights, please see this website (choose 'summer season' once available).

Cagliari can be reached from a wide range of airports in Europe by direct flight:

Cagliari

“And suddenly there is Cagliari: a naked town rising steep, steep, golden looking, piled naked to the sky from the plain at the head of a formless hollow bay. It is strange and rather wonderful, not a bit like Italy. The city piles up lofty and almost miniature, and makes me think of Jerusalem: without trees, without cover, rising rather bare and proud, remote as if back in history, like a town in a monkish, illuminated missal. One wonders how it ever got there. And it seems like Spain or Malta: not Italy.”

David Herbert Lawrence, Sea and Sardinia, 1921

Cagliari, formerly called Caralis, was the capital of the province of Sardinia and Corsica during the Roman period and later capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Today the capital of Sardinia and expression of the Mediterranean atmosphere, is a fascinating destination for its millennial history, for its archaeological and artistic museums, for the courtesy and hospitality of its inhabitants, for the food and wine specialties.

Important Notice

Payments related to your registration, both the ORCA 2022 Summer School and/or the ORCA 2022 Congress, as well as payments related to the booking of suggested hotels, can be done through the dedicated registration system by using a VISA 3D Secure credit card, which is the only type accepted by the platform. Therefore please make sure that you are using such a credit card, especially if you are registering from a non-European country, because currently the 3D Secure protocol (Verified By Visa - ex Secure Code) is mandatory throughout Europe (the same applies to PSD2  regulation too) for any e-commerce transaction.

Such a requirement is not envisaged in the US, for example, so your VISA credit card could work for transactions in American/non-European countries, but it does not work for the European e-commerce.

Please do not hesitate to contact orca_2022@sardiniameeting.it if you need assistance.

ORCA 2022 69th Congress - Registration details

It is now possible to register for the 69th ORCA Congress here.

Important Information

Abstracts & Prizes

Poster viewing and presentation

Further detail will be made available here in due course.

Yngve Ericsson Prize

The Yngve Ericsson Prize is awarded once every three years in acknowledgement of outstanding contributions to prevention of oral diseases.

Established in 1963, The Swedish Patent Revenue Fund for Research in Preventive Odontology was originally founded on royalties from patents, primarily patents for addition of fluoride to dentifrices to prevent or arrest dental caries. The Fund is the largest non-public granting source for dental research in Sweden through its continued support of research into prevention of dental and oral diseases. This international Prize is named after its founder.

The prize awardees are selected by a five-member Prize Committee appointed by the Patent Revenue Fund and ORCA. The Prize will be presented at the 69th ORCA Congress in Cagliari, Sardinia at the Opening Ceremony (Thursday, 29th June).

ORCA Nathan Cochrane Young Scientist’s Award

The ORCA Junior Scientist Award was inaugurated in 2007 as the Young Investigator’s Award, and was renamed the "ORCA Nathan Cochrane Young Scientists' Award" at the General Assembly of July 4, 2014 in Greifswald, Germany. This prize is aimed at encouraging young researchers, and is awarded each year at the Closing ceremony of the ORCA meeting. The prize winner receives a certificate and is entitled to receive reimbursement of the congress fees for a future ORCA Congress. This year candidates will be presenting their posters in the Thursday afternoon session. The winner will be announced at the Closing Ceremony (Saturday, 02 July).

ORCA Conference Travel Fellowships

These fellowships aim to assist attendance at an ORCA Congress. Researchers in the field of caries or related subjects will be eligible, and preference will be given to workers from underprivileged countries. Awardees will be mentioned at the Opening Ceremony.

This 2 hour workshop will empower participants to improve the transparency and reproducibility of (caries) research. Topics covered will be aspects of research planning, protocol registration, data management, reporting guidelines, peer review and some other principles of open science, including pre-publication. The workshop will be interactive and include hands-on activity and training and is relevant to all those with an interest in improving reporting transparency and research reproducibility, particularly those who are less familiar with the principles of Open Science or reporting guidelines. The workshop will be co-hosted by Prof. MaxCenci and Dr. Gráinne McNamara. Max Cenci is a clinical researcher in Dentistry from the Radboudumc (The Netherlands) and the Federal University of Pelotas (Brazil), and works with clinical research, knowledge synthesis and translation, and meta-research, including the promotion of open science practices and the use of tools to increase the transparency on dental research. Gráinne is the Research Integrity / Publication Ethics Manager for Karger Publishers, including the journal Caries Research, and will provide a publisher’s perspective on how to promote transparency and reproducibility in your publications and as a peer reviewer.”

Free for congress participants

This workshop is supported by Karger Publishers and ORCA.

Max 50 participants
